In this late-coming summer, FQ Projects is pleased to present Shi Yan and Mo Di’s dual exhibition: Unseen Mist. The two artists are both young females, born post 1985. Shi Yan’s works include water colour painting and colour pencil pieces. Modi’s works are mainly ink wash on paper, with typewriter printings.

Shi Yan and Mo Di, are not only born on the same year, but also they are from the same Provence. They uses different styles and techniques, to show their feelings, understanding, and attitudes about things. Living both in Guangdong province, the two artists do not know each other,  nor do they share similar content in their works, but both possess a sensitive and feminine quality. This special quality inevitably triggers subtle emotions in viewers.

Shi Yan: “I usually observe the outside world in two ways. I often stare at things, and at the same time, I look at things without focus, feeling the vague mood hovering above them and myself. When looking at objects without focus, I can see that things interact; they fold together or push each other away. They no longer bear their own shape but the imprints of time instead. This kind of ‘casual looking’ makes things honest and clear. Objects in front of me represent the past, be in the present and extend themselves to the future, without fear for ups and downs. Time is going through them slowly and silently. Every fragmented piece contains the whole, and there are fragments inside every whole piece. The oriental sense of uncertainty influenced me deeply. I believe meeting and departing in fate are all ongoing process. In my works, deserted things can be reborn through being deserted. They do not hold complaints about their destiny. They just let time pass through them and forget about themselves like I do when I am looking at them. Besides, most of my works have a dream-like quality. In my works, blue and gray refer to dreams and light pink is the body temperature when half awake.

Mo Di: “ I sometimes use ink wash to draft my oil painting, but most of the time I use it to describe emotions quickly, to record my fleeting feelings. Ink wash is pure, natural and fluid, making it easier to present flashes of sudden thoughts and feelings. My works stem out of the need for brightness, however it can only be reached by passing through darkness. As fear in those years turned away without looking back, darkness is left behind and bright light welcomed.”

Shi Yan was born in Maoming, Guangdong, in 1987. She began teaching herself art in 2006; in 2007 she achieved Excellent Award in “Beyond Art Museums” held by Guangdong Museum of Art. In 2012, Shi Yan began to create works on paper. In 2014 FQ projects exhibited her works in Chi K11 Art In The City Festival and in“ Mirror and Light” group exhibition. The exhibitions achieved attention and appreciation from the art world.

Mo Di was born in Guangzhou, Guangdong, in 1987. She achieved master degree from Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, Oil Painting Department. Her works have been exhibited several times in Hong Kong, Guangzhou and Shanghai.

The exhibition will last for six weeks.
